Ah-ha Moment
I'm more of a meat hunter and don't really care if I take a doe or a buck. Out here in the west I'm glad if I get anything. Over the past year I've been traveling for work back to FL, VA, MD & PA. A lot of the guys I work with hunt. I could never quite understand the antler fixation that they have or that many of you whitetail hunters have on this board. But I had an Ah-ha moment this past week in VA. A coworker was explaining that there are so many deer that if all he wanted was a doe for the freezer his season would be over in an hour. Seeing the number of deer out there this makes sense. He says that he scouts big bucks, locates tree stand sites etc to keep it challenging and to keep the fun in it. If he were to just bag "a" deer it wouldn't be a challenge or any fun. Maybe I'm ignorant but I hadn't looked at it this way.
I was in North FL last year when deer season opened up and I could hardly stand to go outside for the humidity (didn't even want to think about sitting in a tree stand). I don't know how you folks do it out there! I take my hat off to you.
I will say this though, out here in CO if you want to get a Mulely you put your boots on and start walking.
Good luck to you all!

Much of the early part of deer season in the southeast is very hot, with plenty of mosquitos, but the season is very long in NW FL. The late muzzy and bow season goes out Feb, 29 and there have been a number of cooler days to make it more appealing.
