All this hype about camo.

Is it just me, or is the market for camoflauge just ridiculous? All these big name outfitters are constantly on TV killing 185 + B&C deer and they always squeeze in the brief advertisement about their camo. Is it just that the rich people who can afford this stuff keep buying it like its going out of style? I went to bass pro the other day and looked around. Jackets on average were around $80. Now, heres my point.
We see them advertise on tv and kill big deer while wearing it. Does that make some of us believe that if we buy the hi-tech stuff we will be as sucessful as the "pros"???
Growing up in not the most wealthy family, my daddy gave me grandads ol army bdu's etc to wear when we went hunting. We still wear the cheap ol' fashioned stuff to this day. Sometimes I evenwear jean overalls with a flannel shirt under and am regularly sucessful. Papaw wears a SOLID ORANGE, bright as the sun coverall set. He killed two 190 +lb. deer this season. With that, I say that people are seriously getting torn a new one buying into the high dollar clothes of today. Just trying to get a discussion going and outside views.

They are all just trying to make the almighty dollar. I personally have just about stopped buying camo because of all these ads telling folks they have to have the latest to be successfull. And we all KNOW that last seasons camo clothes are now outdated and how can anyone be a big buck killer without the latest pattern.

I agree. You can't be sticking outlike a sore thumb if you want a deer to get into bow range.

I agree with that. When I bow hunt I wont just throw on my overalls and go. I'll conceal myself better, but this stuff ----> http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0039149932673a&type=product&cm Cat=SEARCH&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&QueryText=ghillie+suit+&N=488 7&Ntk=Products&Ntx=mode+matchall&Nty=1 &Ntt=ghillie+suit+&noImage=0

While the marketing for the different color blends is nice to look at the well made products that are also warm, lighter weight, and more comfortable are a big plus.

Camo isn't the onlykey to break up the BLOB effect. In saskatchewan camo is not allowed during rifle season (up until this past season it was a full suit requirement but now pants can be whatever floats your canoe) it never effected my success rate any. First and foremost regardless of what season or outfit my priority list is as follows:

#1 wind (keep it on yours and off theirs)
#2location (no skylining - make sure you have backing so your outiline is not against the horizon. Best camo is still the stuff god made, look for it and use it.)
#3 movement (watch your gross movements -pan with your eyes, situate yourself with the best field of view to minimize movement requirements, etc)
#4 noise ( if it walks andact like a human it must be a human - slow down, stop, listen, look)
#5 prepared/ready (rangemarkers prior to the animals showing up,have your equipment nearby/handy without having to search or move a ton, be alert/attentive, etc)

Adding camo won't hurt. Personally just like decoying geese i think animals see our faces as a beacon, many timesbefore they see anything else! I like to tone mine down with a face mask be it mesh or up here in the cold weather a polyproplene face mask.Or I look down and basically through the beak of my hat when faced with a stare down. Most of the staring contestsI have encountered have resulted awaving bye bye so I try to avoid such contests.;)
