Bullet for .308
I got a new .308 this year and was wondering if what grain of bullet i should use with it for deer. I hunt mainly in the woods so 100-150 yards is my top shot. Thanks for the input.

RE: Bullet for .308
I've always used 150 grain core locts in my .308. They work good.

150 grains all day long. No need for anything bigger.

RE: Bullet for .308
I got the 168 Grain BTSP that I am going to try.. I usually like the smaller weight bullets like the 150 grain for the ballistics.. But I have a 7mm08 and 243 that I use those smaller bullet weights for.. Since my Encore 308 will be the gun that I drag up and down the tree and shots will be less than 100yds I am going with the heavier bullet weight.. I'll leave the long range shots to the 7mm08, 243 or the 6mm.

150 power points, I shoot alot and it can get expensive.

A good bonded bullet. I like the Hornady's.

150-180, just depends on what your rifle likes. My current 308 win shoots best with 150gr bullets, however my old rem 760 wouldn't shoot any 150's very well:eek:.
As far as ammo, I reload and shoot Hornady 150gr Interlock SP as they are cheap. I don't use this rifle for hunting much, though the load has worked fine on whitetails and mulies. |
RE: Bullet for .308
I just started shooting a 308 too, and I have found that 165 and 180 gr bullets shoot best in my gun. I actually just loaded some 150 gr Accubonds to try tomorrow, and I seated the bullet deeper than the last ones.
My suggestion would be to try different bullet weights and see what your gun likes. |
RE: Bullet for .308
150 will do the job, but my rifle shoots tigher groups at 165

I've found it's tough to beat a Barnes X-bullet!
I use them in several calibers and they have always been top performers in all of them. (although I hand load my own) |
