Bullet for .308

I got a new .308 this year and was wondering if what grain of bullet i should use with it for deer. I hunt mainly in the woods so 100-150 yards is my top shot. Thanks for the input.

I've always used 150 grain core locts in my .308. They work good.

150 grains all day long. No need for anything bigger.

I got the 168 Grain BTSP that I am going to try.. I usually like the smaller weight bullets like the 150 grain for the ballistics.. But I have a 7mm08 and 243 that I use those smaller bullet weights for.. Since my Encore 308 will be the gun that I drag up and down the tree and shots will be less than 100yds I am going with the heavier bullet weight.. I'll leave the long range shots to the 7mm08, 243 or the 6mm.

A good bonded bullet. I like the Hornady's.

150-180, just depends on what your rifle likes. My current 308 win shoots best with 150gr bullets, however my old rem 760 wouldn't shoot any 150's very well:eek:.

As far as ammo, I reload and shoot Hornady 150gr Interlock SP as they are cheap. I don't use this rifle for hunting much, though the load has worked fine on whitetails and mulies.

I just started shooting a 308 too, and I have found that 165 and 180 gr bullets shoot best in my gun. I actually just loaded some 150 gr Accubonds to try tomorrow, and I seated the bullet deeper than the last ones.

My suggestion would be to try different bullet weights and see what your gun likes.

150 will do the job, but my rifle shoots tigher groups at 165

I've found it's tough to beat a Barnes X-bullet!
I use them in several calibers and they have always been top performers in all of them. (although I hand load my own)
