Wierd Buck!!

My sister took this "buck" this morning. He had all the right "equipment" to be a buck. He looked like a buck and his neck was swollen. But, he had no horns or even a place where horns should be. His head was a slick as any nanny's head!!!

RE: Wierd Buck!!

It looks like a fawn, therefore it has not grown horns yet. Good eating.

Shame wonder how big his rack would have been. Ive had that happen to me before i couldnt have told that it was a buck by looking at it. Not a big deal in the long run just unfortunate when it happens,You cant eat the horns ither.

Ryan.

You can see the bumps on his head if you look. It isn't "slick as any nanny", just a little feller. Neck swollen?

Nothing weird at all about it. It is a buck fawn. Should be good venison, enjoy.

OK ya'll...I'm new to the forums but, not new to deer hunting!!! He ain't no button buck!!! I know what a button buck is. It is a yearling buck whose horns have not come through the skin yet. This deer was nothing like that. The hair on his head was dark and ruffled. (From rubbing trees???) That is what looks like buttons in the pic. We pulled the jaw bone this morning and tooth wear is consistent with a 3 1/2 year old deer but, he only weighed 96 pounds.

And, yes, his neck is swollen. At least about as swollen as they get around here.

96 lbs spells KNOBBY to me.....not knocking how long you have been huntin...

I have been going hunting with my dad since before I could walk....killed my first deer when I was 8 and my first buck when I was 10. I am 32 now.

One last time....[:@]

THIS DEER WAS NO YEARLING, BUTTON BUCK, KNOBBY, ETC.

Will taste great, but the scope length is as wide as the body and the snout is small. 3 1/2 year old deer is hard to get mixed up with a buck fawn but anyways nice deer.

you sure you have the right pic?

Tell her congrats. But I would have to say myself its a button buck. If you look at the top of its head it is dark like a buck. And no way is it 3 1/2 unless it is a dawf deer which it mite be who knows.

Looks like a fawn...

96 pounds dressed? If so that would be a huge button buck! My guess would be at least 1.5 but that depends on where you hunt, where I am a 86 pounder would be a 3 year old or so...

Looking at your pic, the deer's body isn't even 2 gun scopes long. Itssize isconsistant witha yearling buck.In any case, congrats on the kill and don't be disappointed in the results.

first off is either sex? And if so congrates to her. How ever IF IT IS BUCK SEASON SHAME ON HER.

bryant1 12-21-2007 12:31 PM

RE: Wierd Buck!!

FIRST, congrats to her on the deer.
SECOND, I agree with the others, just a youngbuck from the looks of it. Very proportional to a yearling.
THIRD, this is one of the problems with harvesting does, little bucks get killed in the process also. My father-in-law killed 2 button bucks last year shooting them as does. I can't stand shooting anything without a antler on their head, because everyone makes this mistake once in a while.
