I had a uncle do a european mount on a buck that he killed in Virginia a couple years ago while doing so he found 23 bot flie larva in the sinus cavity. I have seen them get in squirrels, rabbits , and even our cattle here in Florida but he had the first case I have heard anywhere else. These things get up to 2 inches long around here.

it'll take our Florida Fire Ants about a week to clean up a deer skull

Deer are full of different parasites. I have seen flukes in deer I have killed. I have seen these larvae you are talking about come out of the deer's nose I had just shot. Tapeworms are pretty common too. Of course deer are just full ofticks, mites, and lice. Add all of this to the fact that every creature larger than a cat is out to get them, it must be pretty miserable being a deer.
