RE: heavy barrel Vs. standard

On a rough average, how many rounds would you have to shoot thru a regular .243 or .270 before you had a change in impact of say 2" or so at 100 yards due to heat buildup?.

RE: heavy barrel Vs. standard

timbercruiser, that depends on the gun, some will change alittle after one shot, others may take 6-7.

i have 2 22-250 savages, one is a heavy fluted barrel the other is a standard 110 . i shot both last week on the
bench. both group the same ,3/8 at 100 yds. shooting the same ammo. i also have a standard barrel 7mm savage .the first shot with it usually is dead center, but from then on it opens up to about 1 1/2. i have shot 5 shot groups with this gun that were under 3/8,but i have to wait an hour between shots.

most guns aren'tgoingchange enough to hurt you hunting deer or varmints. if i was going to do both with one
gun i'd go light weight.

For deer hunting you wont notice any difference worth picking by any other reason than by what you like...
