RE: anyone ever seen the world record typical

Last year i went and seen a reproduction of it at a hunting and fishing show, but i wasnt at all impressed it looked nothign like it did in the magazines guess i was jus expecting it to be way bigger, or heavier still a outstanding but none the less

"She said if I hit that fishin hole today, she's be packin all her things and she'd, be gone by noon....I'm gonna miss her, when I get home."

RE: anyone ever seen the world record typical

Yea Ive seen a replica of it, nice and symmetric, wide spread, long tines, but not very massive. They aged it at only 3 1/2 years old, imagine what it would have looked like at 5 1/2 years old.
While its a beautiful deer, its definately not the most impressive typical rack Ive ever seen.
Have you ever seen the Breen buck from Minnesota.AWESOME.

RE: anyone ever seen the world record typical

Yep, saw it, and the Mel Johnson buck, the Del Austin buck, and also the Mike Beatty buck....and have all of their signatures....the hanson buck just doesnt look as big in person...I think I have actually seen bigger running around....

No offense, but how can this deer not be that impressive? It is the largest whitetail deer ever taken. I have not seen it in person, but I think I would have to be pretty impressed.

RE: anyone ever seen the world record typical

bigbulls, I dont think anyones saying its not a great buck, because if its the No.1 Typical in the WORLD it has to be something pretty special.
I for one am more impressed by the GROSS score than I am the NET score of a deer. All I am saying is that it is not the most impressive deer that I have ever seen.
I have seen alot of replicas and the most impressive typicals that I have seen are the Breen buck and the ILLINOIS ROAD KILL buck from way back in 1965 (it only scores 176 B/C), but if I were hunting and the Hanson buck and the Illinois Roadkill buck were to both appear at the same time and I had a choice which one to take, I would take the Illinois buck.
Maybe there is someone here that might know the buck that I am talking about and post a pic for you, I think you will agree.

I do agree that there are deer that have antlers that I, myself, like more than the Hanson buck. I personally like deer that have racks that more encircle the deer's head rather than spread way out with no curve to the main beams. More of a matter of personal likes and dislikes. Still it's one heck of a buck. It just sounded like no one thought it was that great.
Hey rflugge, Can we come hunting around your neck of the woods?

Is there a site where you can page through these big bucks so as to compare them at the same time? Thanks One Shot One Kill Striper Phil

RE: anyone ever seen the world record typical

Now that I think about it are there other claims to the world record, racks by some other rating system than Boone and Crocket. Its a nice system but who gave the B& C the right to be the system to call who the world redord is. I don't know the history here. As stated above some non world record (B&C)look more pleasing.
I don't like that a nice rack where the tips come back together a bit loose points on the tip to tip measurement. I like a bit of curve back, looks much better.

Any way whats the skinny here? Thanks again One Shot One Kill Striper Phil

NicholalIF you saw the Zaft buck tonight then you must have been at the Early Bird Expo in Bloomsburg, PA....unless it was a replica because I too saw that buck with Mr. Zaft himself....

I was in the River Valley Game Calls/Outfitters booth running turkey calls. You should have said hello, I had a post in the Northeast Forum to tell everyone to stop by. I had free HNI memorabilia to hand out.

Halo
My name is Ivan Borisov and I am new in this forum. I am from Bulgaria, where the red deer world record was shot (273,6 points CIC). The greatest part of the trophies, shot in Bulgaria is with over 250 points. Bulgaria offers international hunting tourism, so I could organize the hunting. Are there anyone interested in this?

RE: anyone ever seen the world record typical

I live about an hour of where the buck was taken, and saw it last Dec. here in the city. (Saskatoon) It has tremendous length of tines and width. The also magnificent thing is the length of the main beams. But is does lack the mass of a lot of deer. The term trophy really has intrinsic meaning. I have posted a couple of my deer that people might call trophies, but I will never forget my first real trophy, my first buck; a one and a half year old buck.

Striper Phil-
Tip to Tip measurement is not included in a bucks score, so one that curves back is not penalized in any way. I think you are thinking of the spread, but that is measured as the widest part, inside to inside, perpendicular to a line drawn from between the eyes to the middle of the nose ... or something like that. I agree though, I like the ones that curve back as you do.

I havn't seen the Hanson Buck up close but I imagine it being impressive. I did here that the buck only weighed about 165lbs. This may have contributed to the deer not looking as big.

I have only seen a reproduction of the Hanson Buck. It's definitely wide.

The Beatty Buck currently hangs in the Gander Mountain just a mile away from where I work. The antlers are unique, but if the taxidermist did it justice as far as the size and shape of the face is concerned, that massive antler growth must have sucked the calcium out of the skull!

Really skinny face, almost too small compared to the rack. Nowhere near the "Roman-Nosed" characteristics that gives them that regal look.

I ran across this web site that makes reproductions of some (not all) of the record book deer. Check it out and you can get a feel for a the size of some of these deer.
