RE: west virginia
Over the last 5 years or so, the DNR has made a concerted effort to reduce the deer population. They has done this by allowing liberal doe kills. This has significantly reduced the overall deer population. I used to hunt a lot in Wirt County. 5-7 years ago, it was nothing to see 30-40 deer a day. Now you are lucky to see 5-6 in a day. The population has definitely went way down. But thats what happens when you are allowed to take several does in a single season.

RE: west virginia
we found a lot of dead deer to and a real nice eight point we have had deer all over our farm in past years but this year was really bad but the deer kill in the county was up strange

RE: west virginia
you know the bad part is we don't have the doe season like the rest of the state least not for past five years

RE: west virginia
I agree with the poster saying it was nothing to see over 30 deer a day about 5 years ago, but that now there are way less deer. I wouldn't mind it so much if we saw a lot more bigger bucks. I think there are more bigger bucks, but not as many more as one would think given the low deer population. Of course, I can't say for sure what a normal year would have been like, given we didn't have many acorns at all this year.

RE: west virginia
coyotes moved in in the early 90's. The black bear population has grown rapidly. Then a hard winter in about 93 put a real hurting on the deer. They haven't recovered since. I hunt around Seneca Rocks.

RE: west virginia
Deer numbers in the county I hunt have been pretty steady for the last 5-7 years. We had one year (2002) with more than the norm but usually 5-7 deer a day is what I see with 15 or so opening day...but when you are allowed 11 deer in a season you cant really expect big numbers. On the plus side I have killed some nice bucks over the last 5 years.
