how would you score it?
Hey all, I'm running a big buck contest at work and my buddy shot one today, don't know how to score. It probably would have been a main frame 10 with 2 non-typical points on the left (one broken off) and 2 non-typicals on the left plus a sticker that just makes the inch mark. The problem is the rightmain beam is broken off just in front of the g-2, leaving the brow tine, the g-2, the non-typical stuff, and about an inch of main beam after the g-2. My main question is does this get scored as a typical or non-typical and how do you score whats left of the main beam past the g-2? I'll try to get some pics on here tomorrow for reference, but for now any advice would be welcome. thanks.

I would score all of them asa gross score and not worry about typical and non-typical unless you have already announced it as both winning prizes. A guy I knew a few years ago started a contest and started adding his own measurements, inside width, outside width, number of points, etc and he had the biggest mess you have ever seen...

The broken main beam would be scored the same as any main beam - from the base to where the beam comes to a screeching halt. In other words, you can only measure what's there.
There is no steadfast rule as to whether you must score typical or nontypical; usually the choice is made according to the most beneficial result. For example, to make B&C as a typical, the minimum is 170 net while a nontyp is 195 net. Bearing in mind that abnormal points are subtracted for typical scoring and added for nontypical scoring, the break even point is 12 1/2 points - i.e., half the difference between the 195 and 170. So a buck with a 10 nontypical point score would likely get them subtracted and be scored as a typical rack.
