RE: Whats Your Deer Gun?
Ihave three deer rifles. I haven't hunted in the "rifle" part of the state in a while.
Remington model 700 Classic 280 Rem. topped off with a Redfield 3-9x40mmTractor Scope, 140 gr.Remington Core Lokt ammo. Winchester model 88 308 Win. going to get a Nikon 3-9x40mm Prostaff Scope for it. 150 gr. Remington Core Lokt ammo.Marlin model336CS 35 Rem., going to get Nikon 2-7x32mm Scope, 200 gr. Remington Core Lokt ammo.Note- I currentlyhave scopes on my 308 and 35. I just want to upgrade to better scopes. I have also shot deer with all three of these rifles. All of them worked great. The area and layout of the land dictates which rifle I use. When I hunt in the dreaded "shotgun only" part of the state where our hunting camp is located I was going to use my new Remington 11-87 Sportsman Deer 12 ga. topped with a Leupold VX-II 2-7x33mm Shotgun Scope. Unfortunately I had to send my Leupold back to be repaired so I'm not going to be able to use it this season. I don't know which slugs it likes because of the scope problem. Next year I have to start from scratch again. I'm hoping it likes the faster1900 to 2000 fps slugs. Lightfield slugs seem to shoot pretty goodin the slower twist barrels like mine. Gotta wait and see.I set upmy fathers Remington 11-87 Premier 20 ga. It has a 21" rifled barrel and a Nikon 2-7x32mmProstaff ShotgunScope on it. I'm using Lightfield slugs in it.I also have a smooth bore Ithaca model 37 Deerslyer 12 ga. I shoot Remington fosterstyle slugs in that.I haven't shot a deer yet with a shotgun.
