Go search the water. I did the same thing two years ago, searched for 4 days, and found him 30 yards out in a stock tank eventually. Injured deer go to water.
My deer had gone 400 yards through thick brush and crossed two deep ravines. Tough animals if you don't hit them right.

i would bet you hit him in the antler and you messed him up pretty bad. its either you hit him high right underneath the backbone...bruising his spinal collumn making him go down for a bit...or you knocked the crap outta him in the antler.
I shot a deer in the face one time on accident when my arrow hit a twig...the arrow jumped and landed in his rack and he reared up just like you said...but did not fall. So its either one or the two. Alsoo...check water like previous people have said. I shot a deer a while back and found not alot of blood...barely any. When we went back the next day...he was in the swamp bout 80 yards from where I shot him.
good luck...and keep us posted.

i am guessing that you just grazed the top of his back, have seen and heard of deer dropping after a graze on the top of the back and they will get up and are fine. I had a doe do this that i shot in a clover field years back, walked up after the shot and she jumped up, two followup shots put her down for good. upon inspection my first shot seemingly just stunned her and dropped her as i found that i shot her on the top of her back. sounds to me like this was the case, but don't give up!

hope ya find ya deer. sounds like a horn hit or brused the spine.
you learned a vauvle lesson, go stright to a shot animal, don't worry bout things in you stand until you get your animal.
