243 is a great round, but for deer I like a bullet with a little more front and weight to it. 30. caliber is nice and so versatile.

They are both great calibers, especially for someone who doesn't want much recoil. If you're going to use it for deer only, then I would go with the .308 as well, for the bullet weight advantage. But if you're using the gun for other types of hunting, possibly predator hunting, then the .243 would be a better choice. Either would work for deer though.

243 is a great caliber for deer and smaller. 308 is good for deer and bigger!
So, whatever ever to chooseto hunt!?! Both are good calibers!

For the type of hunting I would do with it I would go with the .243, and probably plan on getting one eventually. I live in lower MI and I can't hunt with a rifle. Shotgun or muzzle loader only for gun season.

I primarily would be varmint hunting or there is the off chance I could go up north and deer hunt with it. I have no desire to hunt elk or anything big so it is all I would need.

Otherwise I honestly think I would get a 270 or a 30-06.

One little thing, it's easier to find ammo for the .308.

Really? I've NEVER been to ANY store that sells ammo that didn't have .243. Might be true outside the U.S., but here in the states, doubt it....

As to the original question, depends on what I'd be hunting. Whitetails and smaller, .243. Whitetails and larger, .308.
