RE: New to hunting - any advice???
I highly recomend a stand. Any scent on the ground or close to it will spook them every time. It helps a little being in a tree. Every natural predator of deer areon the ground. So get above it.

I agree with what everyone is saying here. Also, be sure to use some cover scents. Be sure to squeeze the trigger, don't jerk and take everything in that Mother Nature and God has given to you.

RE: New to hunting - any advice???
All I have to say is never quit researching. When I first started hunting all I did was read things on the internet and I also learned a ton from hunting videos. I still watch and learn things from hunting videos. But like one guy said earlier, it is all about trial an error. All the deer are different. For example my friend, who lives a mile away, baits with carrots, but if I try to use carrots at my stand the deer wont even touch them like they do at his stand. Also make sure that you have a lot of cover deer have very good eyes. I found that out my first year.

RE: New to hunting - any advice???
Always, always, always hunt with the wind in your face. Keep your eyes open, deer are hard to see and even harder to hear.
Get a strong rifle, if they're allowed, use a 30-06 so that the deer will drop when it's hit. Don't use a 30-30, they don't have the knockdown power and you may not have a chance for a second shot at a wounded deer. Be sure you can hit something with whatever gun you choose. Aim for the heart/lungs when you have a shot, and if you can't get a good shot at the vitals, don't shoot. Don't get too hung up on getting a buck. When I first started, 4 years ago, I got a doe the first day, and I still haven't gotten a good buck yet. Someday, I will, but they are much harder to hunt than does. Good luck |
