climber treestand question

I've been learning how to use a climber for about 2 weeksand the only problem I have is getting the bottom of the stand to come up when I lift my feet...for some reason it never wants to come up like its supposed to...anybody had or has that problem now or is it just me>???

Are you tilting your toes towards the ground torelease the grip of it? What kind of stand is it?

A little sideways wiggle as you lift should do the trick esp on trees with a thicker bark. Hope this helps.

Sounds like the straps or whatever your feet are under to pull the bottom of the stand up may be picking up the front of the stand and you need the back of the stand to come up first to release the grip..

Post the brand and model of your stand. Each one is different. PS my lone wolf is awsome!!!

RE: climber treestand question

Make sure your feet are strapped to the bottom real well, that will help. I also found that if you take smaller chucks as you climb makes it a lot easier and you actually end up going faster in the long run. If you can, I sit on the shooting rail of the upper part as I bring the lower platform up ( a lot easier then when I first started and was taking bigger chucks and balencing my elbows on the shooting rail. I never had much problem going up, except the one time I was climbing a tree that had a big bulge in it. Usually coming down is the more difficult part for me. Pointing your toes downward (thus the reason for a tight strap on the base is important) does seem to break the platform away from the tree well.

Another thing, tie a nylon string connecting the the bottom and top pieces in case you lose contact with the bottom. Nothing like having it go down the tree without you.

I replaced the lanyard connecting the top and bottom with a bungee cord.
