RE: Shortest Shot
Directly under my seat (shot between my feet) w/ a 30-30 ---130" 4x4 buck tailing a doe.
Next closest was @ 35ft w/ a .308 stalking in snow --- 155 5/8" 5x5 checkin his scrape line.
Closest to a deer ever was a "fork horn" buck came up to me and sniffed my boot.Thought I was gunna have to use the butt of my rifle to beat him away! (Caution NEVER spill a drop of Tinks #69 on your boot during the rut!)

RE: Shortest Shot
I had a deer come bounding over the blowdown I was sitting in. I didn't aim, simply pointed, the muzzle was less than a foot from the deer when I fired, huge nubbin, must have field dressed close to 100 lbs. Several bow shots 5 -6 yards, right under tree, etc. Couple of other running deer with gun in that range also. It is very fun, exciting and rewarding to take them at close range.

3 yards with a bow on a whitetail doe, and 4 yards with a bow on a bull elk.
Once shot a whitetail doe with a rifle so close I couldn't findher vitals with any amount of precision in the scope, had to aim down the barrel. I think it was about12 yards.
Shot a few with a shotgun closer than that out of a stand though.
My wife has the record though. She, myself and her father were whitetail hunting in central Montana the year after we were married. My wife was sitting in a make-shift ground blind and had a big whitetail doe come straight over the top of her. She shot from the hip with her .243, broke the deer's neck, and had it slide to a stop a mere 3 feet from her boots (basically the blind broke the deer's momentum)
