Illinois is shotgun, muzzleloader, or pistol, no centerfire rifles. I use a Mossberg 835 UltiMag with a rifled slug barrel, shoot Hornady SST sabots. In '06 downed a nice 8pt. at 198 yards. He was standing broadside with a doe. First shot hit him close to the heart but he stayed standing with the doe. I gave him about 2 minutes then decided to hit him again. Second shot broke the backbone. That was my first year with the ability to shoot long range. I was using my red dot scope. This year have outfitted with a 3x9. The slugs hit 6 inches low at 200 yds.

When i was 14i shot a whitetail 163 yards away off hand. I droped him, I have no clue how i hit him but luck was on my side.

Mine was last evening, buck at 384 yards. One shot, took two steps and went down. Sako 75 in 7mm STW, 160 gr Nosler Accubond. Before that one, my average for the last 15+ years has been less than 40 yards. Hunting new property this year, so I got the STW and lots of practice.

head shot a 2 does last season one 490 yards and the other 500 yards. I missed one at 750 shot just under her belly. I love the long range shooting myself and some of the guys i hunt with do alot long range shooting and i shoot 1000 comp.
