A couple of years ago I was in woods and could hear some antlers thrashing-big time. I slowly got closer and found two bucks "banging it out" in a smallish meadow. I stood at some distance and silently watched the battle rage! When it was over I cautiously approached the area (rather large area) where thay had fought to check out the scene and maybe see if I could find some sort of souvenior. Boy did they tear up the place! Then who comes back out of the woods? One of the bucks! He didn't seem to happy to see me in what he had just established as "HIS WOODS". His look was like, "You want some of this action dude?...You got it!". He was about 40 yards off and my truck was like 150 yards off. He trotted out towards me a little and stopped. Then a little more and stopped. I took value in the lesson he was teaching and trotted a little at a time myself toward the truck with him mirroring me all the way. He wasn't far behind when I made my last mad dash to the safety of the truck cab leaving him only a few yards behind. If he realy wanted my a** I think he would have got it! There was some guy who was sitting in area around my truck who said me, "Wow! He almost got ya, that was pretty funny!" I said something like , "Yeah. Really f***ing funny......maybe to you!"

I've seen a good amounts of bucks fighting, it always makes my hairs stand up! AWESOME FEELING! But, BIG BUTT! (And her name ain't Jennifer Lopez) There is one thing I've learned and that is..................Keep a great distance from bucks, fighting or not!

Many years ago there was a lady that hit a deer with her car, the deer went threw the front windshied. It didn't die right away and started kicking with its back legs. The lady couldn't get out of the car in time and the deer got her right in the throat with one of its hoofs, ended up killing the lady.

A buddy of Mine got attacked by a buck that He had raised from a fawn. It was 1 1/2 years old, and the rut was on, and when He went in the pen to feed it He got gored from behind. Luckily He had some heavy clothing on, and it kept the tines from going into His lungs. He gave that buck to the Penn State research team, and it got HUGE! I've known folks that got knocked down by deer trying to escape danger or kicked by deer that were thought to be dead, but I've never heard of a wild deer aggressively attacking anyone.

I saw a TV program (forgot the name of it, funniest videos or something like that) where this guy dowlsed himself in buck urine scent and a buck came into his back yard and beat him up pretty good all the while his wife was filming the whole thing. She called him stupit on the tape for doing such a in her words dumb thing. The poor guy was on the ground bleeding while his wife was chastizing him.

A few seasons ago I was going to my spot , and decided to try to sound like a deer as I walked in . I had just entered a right of way that had a powerline running through it , muzzle loader still in it' s case , when I heard something in the woods off to the right . I remember thinking , " Too early to be a squirrel , sounds like only one , must be a deer , probably that big buck that lives over in the bean field . The buck in question is an older , and seriously big 10 pointer that the locals had been after for years . The prospect of taking such a wallhanger had me drooling . He had obviously heard me , so I decided to give a soft doe grunt to calm him down , then set up across the clearing to wait for legal hour . In my haste to execute this plan I forgot that I had set the call on the young buck setting the previous weekend , put the call to my lips and blew . All he** broke loose as the enraged buck , thinking that an interloper was on " his turf" , began to give the brush a sound thrashing ! The sounds of pawing , snorting , and wheezing filled the air , along with a strange sound which I later identified as pi** running down my leg . " Oh God , I' m gonna be on When animals attack !" , I thought as I struggled frantically to unsheath my gun . I somehow managed to rip it from the case , only to remember that I hadn' t capped it yet ! [X(] The tin of caps was still in the pocket on my chest , and I struggled to get it open and get a cap on the nipple . The buck was still there , only about 20 or 30 yards away , and still mad as all get out . With shaking hands I got the smokepole capped , and tried frantically tried to line up my fiber optics . Dammit ! Too dark to light ' em up ! [:@] At this point the frustration and fear were so powerful that I almost wished he would come out just to get it over with , maybe I' d get lucky and club him to death with the gun . But to my immense relief the buck decided that this " young punk" was sufficiently chastened , and no longer worth the effort . I could hear him making his way through the trees for several minutes , fortunately for me he headed in the opposite direction . I don' t think my knees stopped shaking for at least an hour !

I just posted this discussion at two other forums (www.huntontario.com and www.hotspothunting.com) but this forum has the most activity!

I was out for a hike geocaching, a game played with a GPS (see www.geocaching.com for details). In a field, we spotted a doe and her fawn. It looked to me like the fawn was still fairly young. Mom ran away (white flag and all) but the fawn just trotted behind. It’s a busy area outside Kanata, Ontario and the deer are quite used to people. They stopped when they were a safe distance then slowly trotted away.

Going back to the car I rounded a tree and ran smack into the doe. She was only ten yards away and I was in plain view (moving) and she stood perfectly still. I knew the fawn was around and slowly looked around to make sure I wasn’t near it. As I passed the doe and continued to the car, I noticed the fawn laying down under a tree behind her.

What really gets me is that I didn' t have a camera or a gun, so no shots whatsoever
