07 muley hunt

RE: 07 mule hunt
well I live in Great Falls, Montana and I shot that buck in Belt Montana.. about 40 mins away from my house. I had a buddy that works on a ranch out there and he asked if I wanted to go out hunting with him. So the next morn. I loaded up my 4 wheeler and met him at his house and we took off and ran the 4 wheelers bout 20 miles just stoping and glassing trying to find a big buck. We saw several nice bucks that I normally would have shot, but we were looking for a big buck. We were sitting on top of a ridge eating lunch and just watching the bottom of the ridge that we were sitting on when a couple of mule deer does I guess got nervous with what we were doing and ran out of heavy buck brush. We never saw em bedded in there, but about 5 ran out and no bucks.. so we just watched where they ran too and they spooked up a couple more that we couldn't see bedded.. I threw up the glasses just to check to see what they were and i could make out horns on 2 of emand they were about 800 yards away so we figured he was a decent buck.. we then tried to make a stalk closer to them but they saw us and ran to the top of the ridge. As the buck skylined himself we could tell he was def. a shooter.. so we went back to the 4 wheelers and drove to the other side of the ridge where we last saw em and parked the wheelers and started walking to the next draw where we thought they might have ran and held up in.. after about a 400 yard walk, i spoted a doe down in the bottom of the draw lookin right up at me, but with the sun at our back and a cross wind, we figured we were good to walk a little bit closer to try and look down into the draw to see if our buck was down there.. after bout 30 more yards we could see the buck looking right up at us and i threw up the range finder and saw it was only 220 yards to him.. so i threw up the gun and held on his front shoulder allowing the 30 mph wind to drift the bullet right in behind his shoulder.. i pulled the trigger and he jumped and ran bout 40 yards and went to bed down on the side of the hill when he just fell over and rolled 100 yards down the hill into the bottom. After 12 years of hunting here in montana I finally shot a decent mule deer buck.
