Logging a timber
What effect will logging a timber have on the deer hunting?

RE: Logging a timber
in my neck of the woods,it helps 75%.I always love to hunt cutovers.all the new growth makes the deer move in.
any time I find a cut I will go around the outsides, and look for the trails they use to enter and exit.setup and get ready for some good hunting. they have started cutting 1/3 of the pines in our club.this leaves a lot of open area for the new growth. <font size=4>"I love cuts"</font id=size4> I am not a hunter I am a whitetail population reduction specialest remember keep your back to the sun, your knife sharp, and your powder dry. |
RE: Logging a timber
It allows the growth of more feed in the logged areas, which helps increase the carrying capacity of the forest land . It has made the deer hunting much better here .

If they only harvest the mature, quality trees, not that much is different after they take them. You can't blame the landowner for wanting to get some of his money back.

I agree with Treeclimber. Any time you promote NEW GROWTH you get deer to move in they love the tendet new shoots.

cutting works well for whitetail and turkey habitat.my dad owns a logging and lumber company,so i may be a little biased.i have hunted in both types, non cut,and cut. on the non cut, only mature trees are harvested.some small clear cuts. its very open, and the deer have alot of acorns.they go to the clearcuts.its hard to hunt in a heavy cut areas.drives work best in in my opinion.

RE: Logging a timber
In my past experience it has been good. I have found that it promotes more deer movement, offers better shots and great visuals on deer moving. Deer love the moss that grows on some trees and it also makes it easier for deer to get acorns. But with the pros there is always some cons. Less cover for you, the hunter, deer can feed more ofter, easier, contributing to them stay put in specific areas. Also when windy the lack of trees in my expereince helps the wind whip around, inturn having deer sent you better. Happy hunting. KEEP HUNTING THE GREAT OUTDOORS & GOD ALIVE, PASS IT ON! |
