Launchin'slugs in Morgan county.

Each of the past 3-4 seasons I've been wanting to buy a muzzleloader, but always wait around too long and run out of time to get one properly 'tuned in'...Guess there's always next year...

I have been thinking about a muzzleloader as well. Howver, the money for archery really drains the pockets.

I will be out opening morning carrying a Mossberg 500 shooting Sabots!

I will be safely sitting out this gun season. It seems everytime I go during slug season I get walked in on, and or totally frustrated with the ethics of the other hunters. So good luck, but I'll stick to my sticks and strings. By the way, where are all of the Illinois boys from.

P.S. If you hunt with an outfitter or are an outfitter in Illinois, I don't care where you hunt, so don't tell me.

Andy,
No, this is on private ground, and I'm sure they had permission to hunt it, but it is just common courtesy to not park behind somebody else's truck and hunt there, especially on 20A. I graduated from SIU last May in Agri-Business, I hunted a little in Giant City. In fact, I'm coming down tomarrow for Halloween with my friends. Oh, I'm from Edwards county, and thanks for the offer, but I think I'm set on hunting ground right now, that is until it get's leased up. Don't get me on my outfitting rant, I hate them!

Andy,
Yeah, they have put a tight grip on Halloween down there, but it's still alot of fun. Giant City kind of sucks compared to hunting private ground, but it was still nice to hunt down there. I live about two hours north of C-Dale, so I got to come home on the weekends and hunt alot. If you're looking for a place to party tonite come over to Copper. See ya later.

Guys,

Unless I'm mistaken (it wouldn't surprise me if I was) that you cannot use a muzzleloader for the 1st gun season, but you can use either a shotgun or Muzzleloader during the second season. Someone correct me please if I'm wrong. Now during the Muzzleloader season you can use the ole smoke poles but not the shotguns.

Anyway for both seasons I plan on being out in Macoupin Co.

You can use muzzleloader, handgun, or shotgun 1st, 2nd, and late firearm season(the old handgun season). Muzzleloader season the week after 2nd firearm season is for muzzleloaders only.

I will be in Clark Co. with 80 acres all to myself:DUsing the trusty 12 ga. pump. I am from Champaign. Good Luck to you guys....and as Andy mentioned, I believe that extra 30 minutes will cause some MONSTERS to be taken this year across the entire state....watch and see.

newhunter1atwork,
You can use shotgun, handgun, or a muzzleloader during the two firearms seasons. You could carry all three if you wanted to do so. Where you might be confused is that you can use a muzzleloader only permit to hunt the 2nd firearms season, with only an ML of course!

Anybody using 12 ga Hornady SST sabots this year?

andy da animal 10-31-2007 11:45 PM

RE: Illinois Slug season

My brother is using the Hornady SST! he uses them through his remington 870! they shoot a sweet patern for him! they dont shoot near as well through mine though! but if you are going touse them and havent sighted in your gun yet, i highly suggest purchasing WOLF's they shoot bout the same (up to 50 yards, and dont travel quite as fast) but gives you a really good starting point! then once you get a good pattern shoot the Hornadys and fine tune it! saves tons of money!
