Default hunting on the VA - WV border in early to mid November, advice please.

Hey all, I am looking for advice. In particular, is this considered pre-rut, rut, or post-rut in this part of the country, and accordingly what might I look into trying. I was thinking about buying one of those bleat cans, or trying to rattle. In the morning and evening I will probably just sit still and quiet, but I am looking for something new to try, possibly mid-day.

I hunt in southern WV. The pre-rut is starting now. I found my first scape line of the season this past weekend. Traditionally the rut starts around the second week of Nov. (5th-15th).

You will be hunting the actual rut. If you find a good spot you wont need to do any calling. Hunt the does and you will find a buck.

I don't know exactly where you're hunting as there's a lot of land on the border but I hunt in Craig Co (which is on the border) and the rut normally peaks during ML season. (About the 10th of Nov)

As far as tactics go. Just be where the does areand everythign else just falls into place. My experience is that a hot doe could be anywhere so if you're somewhere that has food and you've seen does before just sit and wait.
