Reducing kick on an 870

It's a 870 express.with the fully rifled barrel. I have been shooting the winchester 2-3/4 sabots and the thing kicks pretty bad. I am kind of tired of my shoulder hurting after shooting only a few rounds. The trigger also takes quite a lot of effort when squeezing off a round.

Is there any type of stock or other things I could buy to help with the kicking? or am I just going to have to suck it up and deal with it.

Also how hard is it to adjust the tension on the trigger to make it smoother and easier?

Try a Limbsaver recoiler reducer for the buttplate. I have seen them advertised.

Limbsavers are great. They also make a mercury flow insert you put inside the stock, but I really don't know a lot about them.

It is just a fact that slug guns hurt on both ends. Adding weight like the mercury inside the stock and a recoil pad will help. Recoil doesn't bother me much, but I did switch to a 20 gauge Ultra Slug a coupleof years ago because of the accuracy of a friends that I had shot. It kicks less than the Winchester Auto 12 gauge I was using. Also once you get sighted in, it's not like you are gonna shoot 10-15 times while hunting so if you can get thru the pain of sighting in and practice . I think Remington also sells some reduced recoil slugs??

Mercury? I thought even mercury thermomoters were gone. What about the decelerators?

But before I went with anything mechanical or fancy, I would just get a nice recoil pad fitted and tuff it up trooper.

Try a different slug if nothing else works...i recommend Lightfelds or the new Hornady SST.
