ATLANTA (AP) -- Gardeners would be able to
kill deer that nibble on their plants under a bill introduced in the Georgia House on
Wednesday.

The bill would allow private gardeners to kill deer out of season, as long as they apply to
the Department of Natural Resources for a permit. Currently only commercial farmers are
allowed to kill deer year-round if the deer eat their crops.

&quot; So many people have gardens now and supplement their food supply with homegrown
food,&quot; said Rep. Curtis Jenkins, D-Forsyth, who sponsored the bill.

&quot;Right now they don't have a lot of options if deer are destroying their gardens except for
repellents or electric fences, which are expensive and limited in their effectiveness,&quot; he
said.

If the bill is approved, gardeners would have to apply for a permission for the kills and
then report to the state how many deer they have killed.

Man, alot of country boys are going to take up gardining really quick!

Though I can understand the concern it seems as though there could be another method to detour deer from this.

But, on the other hand if I understand this right, as long as I have a permit for this and I catch a deer or deer in general eating away at my garden I can have some deer roast with my carrots and peas!

I am more than sure that alot of people are going to find every loope hole on this amendment and deer will be droping like crazy.<img src=icon_smile_blackeye.gif border=0 align=middle>

Seem to good but will this effect heards!

KEEP HUNTING THE GREAT OUTDOORS & GOD ALIVE, PASS IT ON!

One of my neighbors will be very happy if this is passed. She was attacked (not seiously injured) in her garden this past fall by a small buck that had been hanging around most of the summer.
I don't know if this will have much of an effect on the herd overall as the number of hunters is way down in the population. Many people, even though they live where they can grow a garden, are in places where they can't do any shooting or have no interest in hunting and don't eat venison.
