we have garminrhino 530. gps and radios in one.....they are great ......gives you the location of the person you are talking too ...that is nice especially if you need help dragging out a big one

Midlands and Colbra's are not a very good brand in my opinion.

One of the downfalls of those models is that they do not have the same privacy codes as the Motorola's. The frequencys are not the same. They do not interchange between them.

I have bought several sets of Motorola's and even lost one once due to a broken clip and Motorola GAVE me a new SET of walkie talkies.

I use a T7400 for my deer hunts and I have talked in the Pennsylvania woods for at least 3 miles with no problems. All due to terraine and location.

It has the weather channel and all the options that I want.

The thing that I do not like is the call tones. My dad sets his walkie talkie on door bell and it seems like everytime a nice buck comes in - he pushes his buttonand makes all kinds of noise and scares the deer away.

The Rodger beep is also anoying. You can turn them off, but dad just turns them back on again.

The only place where you will get 10 miles of range is on Lake Erie - where it is flat and there are no trees. But the higher the power - the more range you will get. But the downside of that is less battery life.

The Motorola T7400 will run about 2 days without a charge - 10 to 12 hours a day if you only use them about 20 minutes per a day in transmit model.

The recieve does not use much power, but the transmit does.

I also have a set that picks up FM Radio stations. It sacrifices some of its performance - with a trade off of recieving FM music / weather etc.

regular fm radio stations transmits between 88 and 107 MGhz, where as the walkie talkies transmit and recieve between - 462.5625 and 462.6250
