Red Lend Flashlights and Deer Hunting
 

Can anyone answer the question; can a deer see the light from a red lens flashlight? I have walked up on deer before using a red lens light, but can they see the light or was I simply lucky?

The experts claim that deer cannot see the beam from a light with a red lens.

i use a green light

deer are color blind to the color red...they see blue and yellow-green colors...we see red, blue, green

I tried using a red lensand a green lens cap on my Streamlight last year to check the field before I climbed down and if there was a deer in the patch they would haul butt when they saw the light.

Red/green lights are used primarily to preserve your night vision, since the eyes do not adjust as much as with white light.
They also "throw" less light on the ground, therefore are less noticable to any critter out there, even two legged ones. (Think military flashlights here)
If directed right at an animal, they will still see they bright bulb in whatever color they persieve it as.
