Why the worry about recoil? Do you have shoulder problems? I don't understand people complaining about recoil all the time.I can shoot a .308 in a tee shirtand it doesn't bother me. I can see if you're shooting everyday like 50 shots, but if it's just for deer hunting, the recoil is nothing in my opinion.
I like to knock them down and stay down so i like the.30 calibers or magnums.

id say go with a 223 or a 243 with a pad. Like i stated before i had surgery which could cause paralysis theres nothing worth risking and deer are not armor plated. You can kill plenty of deer with either round. Good luck and god bless

Yeah, except that the SKS has a steel buttplate, and it makes what little recoil it has feel like a lot more than it is when shooting from the bench, but offhand, it wouldn't recoil too bad, I reckon, since your body can move with the recoil when standing up, or in the crouch position better than it can at a bech sitting down.
In any case, if I were to got the route of the SKS, I would change the butt of the rifle if I could.

"You can also use a 30-06 with 'Managed recoil'. And if you have a Limbsaver (~$40), then you have a very comfortable gun to shoot." savage 3006
a rem.700 30-06 i think is good if you get recoil pads, my brother shoots the 30-06 with a recoil pad and has no problem(10years old)
