Why the worry about recoil? Do you have shoulder problems? I don't understand people complaining about recoil all the time.I can shoot a .308 in a tee shirtand it doesn't bother me. I can see if you're shooting everyday like 50 shots, but if it's just for deer hunting, the recoil is nothing in my opinion.

I like to knock them down and stay down so i like the.30 calibers or magnums.
to be more specific I had two metal 'leads' (essentially just wires) put into my spinal column. no risk of paralysis or anything but the recoil from a rifle could cause them to be dislodged. then they'd have to go back in again and sitting in an operating room w/ a surgeon messing around with your spine saying 'whatever you do, don't move!' isn't very fun.

id say go with a 223 or a 243 with a pad. Like i stated before i had surgery which could cause paralysis theres nothing worth risking and deer are not armor plated. You can kill plenty of deer with either round. Good luck and god bless

I'd say a .223 rem would work with the way they work over coyotes. Had a hole in one of them last year I could put my fist in.

Also you could look at a 6mm. Basically just like a .243.

Yeah, except that the SKS has a steel buttplate, and it makes what little recoil it has feel like a lot more than it is when shooting from the bench, but offhand, it wouldn't recoil too bad, I reckon, since your body can move with the recoil when standing up, or in the crouch position better than it can at a bech sitting down.

In any case, if I were to got the route of the SKS, I would change the butt of the rifle if I could.
well I was going off of my SKS its a yugo and has a rubber butt plate. I forgot that the other sks variants have a metal butt plate. The rubber yugo butt plates are a dime a dozen I see them forsale alot. it will fit on other sks types also or even just get a slip on recoil pad

I would have to say .243 cause any smaller in FL is illegal..

"You can also use a 30-06 with 'Managed recoil'. And if you have a Limbsaver (~$40), then you have a very comfortable gun to shoot." savage 3006

a rem.700 30-06 i think is good if you get recoil pads, my brother shoots the 30-06 with a recoil pad and has no problem(10years old)
