.243, 25-06, 257 Roberts, 7-08, .308 would all be good choices.Rifle choice (weight)will affect this as well. My daughter does not handle recoil well, but with a weatherby vanguard synthetic and stainless, which weighs 9.75 +/- pounds, she shoots a .308 with no problems at all.

If you're only planning on shooting 100 yards there's no need for a "big" high powered rifle. Grab a good ole lever gun in the timeless 30/30 or 44 mag and go hunting!
I'll agree though, that a 243 would be my choice for you if you were wanting to possibly shoot a little farther.
Good luck and I'm glad to see that you're not letting that surgery keep you from huntin!

243 with a limbsaver on it. Your all set.. You can get a lot of bullet choices for it at just about any mom and pop store.. I got 2 of them and I love em...

I would suggest the .243 but the .223 would be ok also. The limbsaver recoil pad is a wonderful thing and they have a new one out that will reduce recoil as well was muzzle jump. If you can tolerate it I would also look at a heavier gun to reduce recoil.

My buddy had the same question a few years back. He was in a bad car accident and when hunting season came around, using a rifle with less "kick" was crucial.
He used my .250 Savage (250/3000 - Model 99 lever action) ) and it was just what the Dr. ordered.
It is heavy rifle which helps on the recoil and is suited fine for deer.
