I have a 1894 marlin in 357 magnum that works well on deer size game out to 100yds. This gun has very little recoil and is fun to shoot.

Marlin 336 lever action. Chambered in .35 remington. 200 grain bullet. Not bad recoil at all. Will take down any deer you want to.

if i was you i would get a .243 because they dont have that much recoil and ithas some range on it, you can also get a good recoil pad for it

I would agree to the post of 7-08. I believe a better cal. for whitetails than the .243. (and yes I own both cal.)

Kinda overkill but a Marlin 4570 has almost no kick at all (less than a 12 guage shotgun) I can shoot pop bottle caps at 50 yards just fine with iron sights. Otherwise stick with a weapon that uses straight cased rounds (no magnum). Good luck.

.243 is the best I have ever used.My son has one and after he killed his first deer with it,I even use it sometimes. It is light, has no recoil and if you ever skin a deer after its been shat by a .243 you will see what kind of damage it will do.

My girlfriend uses a .223 very successfully, but shots are under 100 yards. For longer range, you can't beat a .243. I use a .270 and it kicks like a mule. Sometimes I wish I could trade it for a .243, but I'm too attached to it.

I am a bit surprised this hasn't been mentioned yet.

50 caliber muzzleloader (or even a 45 if legal).

My muzzy - with a deer load - has less kick than my .243.

I bought a 243 and put a Sims Limbsaver recoil pad on it for my 12 year old daughter. She has no problem shooting it. It has very little recoil. A 223 would have even less but there is more of a debate as to whether it is enough gun. Personally I think it is.
