Do the deer eat just the nut or will they eat the cap on them and all?I know thesquirrels dont, have shells all over my truck.

good question, but i think they just crack them and eat the seed inside.

wis??? Are you serious when you say that you think they just crack the shell and eat it like we do a sunflower seed?

They eat the nut and leave the cap.

They don't usually eat the cap because on most trees the acorn falls out of the cap, butthey doeat the shell. The only acorns I've ever seen them seem to try to shell were some huge swamp chestnut oak acorns that were close to golf ball size.

Have any of ya'll examined thecontents of the deer's stomach after you field dress it? I check every deer as the season goes just to help me figure where to hunt by what they are eating. Red oak acorns usually fall out of the cap pretty easily so you don't find many caps in their stomach. White oak acorns here have caps that almost completely encapsulate the kernel, so caps and all in stomachs that I've searched.
