Really? You just resurrected another one that has been dead since 2002.

Yep! He has to intentionally be going way back into the archives to pull these dead threads up, so he has to know they are ancient!

The best part of this resurrected thread was reading some of Lance couche couche's comments again.

I love seeing the really old posts. Get to see some old names and it is interesting to see if opinions have changed over the last 10 years.

I didn't get in on the conversation back then, but aside from the family matters of the OP's situation, unless you are in a high fence, or the land is an island, 250 acres is not big enough to do what he wants to do.

and 1 buck a year isn't going to have a big effect on the deer herd's genetics. During the rut, there will be bucks cruising over 1000s of acres. Maybe 50 different bucks will pass through his property between October and November. Shooting 1 small buck won't mean anything.

And just because a buck is small doesn't mean he carries good or bad genetics. Young deer die all the time. If that one buck is the focal point of your deer herd then you're one car/deer collision of being out of business.

When is this fascination with big antlers going to end? Whatever happened to hunting for meat? When did that become a bad thing?
