.270 grain bullets....
i have a remmington 700 model .270 win. i have found that with my scope the 130 gr. and 150 gr. have a BIG difference in distance shooting. at 200 yards there is about at 5-7 inch drop with the 150. i like the 130gr. because of the distance i can get while still being accurate, but should i switch to the 150 gr. for greater knock down power?

RE: .270 grain bullets....
The 130 grain bullets will kill nearly anything you can hunt in the U.S. and do it well. The only thing I'd consider stepping up my bullet weight for would be elk or something larger. I'm curious if the two different bullets you shot were the same brand. You'll find by experimentation, that most rifles will have a brand and weight bullet that it seems to "prefer". The variation comes from the different tolerances each manufacturer maintains.

I've used the 140 grain Hornady BTSP for years and I'm very happy with them.

Stick with 130's for deer!

I agree with Reb, stick with the 130's. Do you have the pre-season tinker bug? I am getting that with my ML.

RE: .270 grain bullets....
I say use the 130's also. They have plenty of power for any deer.

RE: .270 grain bullets....
I guess I will be the first to disagree with everyone else. LoL:D
I use 150gr. in my .270win. I mostly hunt thick cover or creek bottoms where my shots are under 100yds. I have shot plenty of deer with 130gr. and 150gr. I just like the 150's. A high sholder shot with a 150gr CoreLokt equals no tracking. My rifle (700 ADL) will shoot almost every bullet that I've tried (and I've tried alot over the 10+ years of having it) almost identical. So, what I do is keep both 130gr and 150gr with me. In case I hunt an open field or cut-over, I just load up a 130gr. |

If you need the trajectory then there's no question about it. Use the 130s. If you don't? Both will git 'er done.

RE: .270 grain bullets....
I shot a deer last year with a 130 gr. core lokt. No complaints. I've shot more than I can remember with 150's, including my longest kill on a deer which was 352 steps.

RE: .270 grain bullets....
Stick with what your gun shoots the best. The only reason to move up in weight is if you'll be hunting something bigger than deer.
