This is just my opinion, but IMHO for short range 150 yards or less I would go with 150 grain cor-loks. For long range shots I do not know, I have never taken a shot over 125 yards, most of mine have been 50 yards or less.

I use a 30-06 myself but my 2 brothers have a 270 and they use core-lokt bullets in them with good success.I guess it is more of a personal choice.

Greets,
The person I hunt with regularly uses a .270. I can personally attest to this, the Ballistic silvertip ( I think Remington makes it) in 130gr is definately good to whatever range you can safely shoot it too. My patner took a 4x4 plus brow tines 2 years ago at over 400 yards, ( way farther than he shoulda been shooting ) and even though he didnt hit it well, ( hit the rear hips sucky shot embarrassed the hell out of him ) not only did the animal go down, and not go far, we found it within 30 yards from the spot he shot it. But also, even at that range it AND going thru both sides of the rear hips the bullet went clear thru it. ( Blew the begeesus out of the poor critters hips, bone fragments everywhere )
I wouldnt advocate risky shots like that, unless you know you can hit it right dont try, but I definately think in .270 you wont find a finer bullet than the Ballistic silver tip.

Just my uneducated opinion!

i think i would try that ballistic silvertip that fella was just talking about. i used to have a 270 back in the late 80's and early 90's and took deer with both the 130 gr. and then the 150gr. later. i liked the 150gr. a little better because it was a little slower and did'nt zap thru the deer as fast. i used all pointed and cor lok bullets.

Adui13 Remington loads a nosler ballistic tip bullet and winchester load a nosler/winchester combined technoligies bullet called the ballistic silvertip . I have just started loading them . They seem to retain more weight than the ballistic tips do but I haven't shoot them enough to make a final judgement myself . I load Barnes 130 gr bt x bullets for my 270 win if I'm going to hunt with it .
