RE: Which is a bigger deer hunting state?

I believe Texas is the winner-it has 3million hunters.Michigan is up there as well as Wisconsin and don't forget Pa.We take an average of 400,000 deer annually-not bad for a state that size.

What do you mean by largest? A bigger state may have more numbers killed. But what about &quot;emphasis&quot; on the deer season? Does Michigan or Texas shut schools and some businesses down during gun season because the kids wouldn't be there anyway?

Almost all PA schools aren't open on Monday after Thanksgiving which is opening day of deer season. coincidence? nope PA hunting is great now if we only had deer as large as Michigan & Texas. oh wait new antler restrictions are supposed to make that happen.

What kind of question is this? Texas has more land mass. Michigan has more deer killed. Texas has a bigger deer population. Michigan has larger deer.
Don't think these two boys will solve this probelm with a 6 pack over the camp fire.
Sounds like both are correct.

That's what I'm getting at cable guy.:) In WV, the season starts the Monday before Thanksgiving and all week is shut down. At least when I was there many moons ago.......<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

I don't know, but the week before Thanksgiving I see hunters from all those states in Pike County, IL.

I would think that Tx,Mi,Wi,& Pa. are big time hunting states. As for land Tx wins. Pa.'s numbers will surely dwindle because of Alt killing-off all the does.

I am glad my state isn't the largest, plus no baiting. We have more public land available than any other state. You can go up north and have two square miles to yourself. I like it this way..........

Those Wisconsin stats are telling. With 700,000 gun hunters, and 500,000 deer taken, then throw in the bow hunters (who might gun hunt also), figure your success rate. I wonder how that stacks up against some of the other states.

I guess until the deer get trained to come ring your doorbell there's always going to be times when someone gets skunked.

When did Wisc. pass MN in B&C entries. I know lately that Iowa, Illinois, & Kansas are going to pass or already have passed MN but I don't remember Wisc moving up lately?

RE: Which is a bigger deer hunting state?

Texas=more deer, stricter bag limits.
Michigan= not as much deer, less strict bag limits.

Size of deer all depends on what part of each state you hunt. My older brother lives in Michigan, I live in Texas and our deer are relatively equal in size. That is on an average. Some years his are larger, some years mine are larger. The only disadvantage is, he has the opportunity to bag more.
