Lessons for young hunters

I'll pass on 2 things that my Pop told me were so important.
In his words, "Be quiet as a church mouse." And move very, very slowly. Deer are quite keen at detecting even the slightest movements, whether looking directly at your position or not.
If you think you hear something, no matter how tempting, don't just swivel your head. Myself Islowly swing my eyes to the direction as far as I can and then stop and listen a bit, then s-l-o-w-l-y turn my head, little bit, by little bit.
Then I see the squirrel.

Be patient & persitant. These hunting shows glorify in 30 minutes what might take yrs to accomplish.
Be happy to be out in the woods. It doesn't matter that much how many bucks you see or if you get a kill.
My dad told me the other day he still gets a little "buckfever" every time he sees a buck(after 30+ yrs). If you ever lose this feeling then you might as wellpick up another sport.
Don't get caught up in being competitive. i use to be very competitive with my friends when younger, wanting to kill more or bigger bucks.

Patience and don't get down if you don't harvest a deer even when you believe all factors are perfect. Always be safe an simply enjoy your time in the deer woods. Feel fortunate for many would love to be there but never have the chance.
