I'm not too familiar with the model 710 but if it's anything like the 700 you'll love it. I've taken many deer with my 700 in 30-06.

I have heard good and bad things about them Some say the it is not reliable and has actually fallen apart on them, while others have had nothing but good things to say about it? Do a search on Google for it and you will find a few discussions about them.

You'd better of with a model 700 in my opinion. That's what I purchased last year and I like it.

This is regularily discussed in the Firearms forum, 95% of comments are negative. I've never shot one, but on reputation the 710 is NOTHING like a mod700.
If you are looking for an affordable yet quality deer rifle look at Savage arms. And visit the Firearms Forum, some real knowledgable guys down there.

The Remington Mod 710 has a press in barrel.
So I would stay away from it.
I have only heard bad things about it.
Go with a model 700
or something else.
A Savage model 110 is better.
Thats one of the rifles I am building in Gunsmithing school in 308 caliber.

I've killed deer with mine. It's light and a good shooter. If you're willing or able to shell out big bucks get a different gun. If you're poor like me, get the 710. I haven't had a single problem with mine and it's dropped down deer just like everything else. This is from this past gun season...sorry for the tongue...it kept falling out...

RE: Remington Mod 710

My little sister just purchased a package 710, .243 with a scope already attached. I was a bit skeptical, but she'd already bought it so we took it to the range to sight it in. It's a heavy gun IMO. I thought the detachable magazine was a minus, but she really likes it for unloading after a hunt is over. The bolt was tight and really needed some oil, but after I applied some, it smoothed out pretty good. The trigger was nice, crisp, and light. She lined up for the first shot at 25 yards. I had put up 3 targets just hoping it would hit paper as we didn't have a bore sighting tool to get it close. First shot hit about 1" low and about 1/8" to the left. That was pretty close to where I would have set it so I had her shoot again. 1" low and dead center. I was surprised but decided to go ahead and head over to the 100 yard range. First shot it hit about 1" high and just slightly off left. Had her shoot again and it tore the bullet hole. This was with factory Remington loads. I was impressed with how it shot, and it fit her well. I'm still abit skeptical about how well it will hold up, but for a price of $275, I'm confident she'll get many deer seasons out of it. If you're not a regualr range shooter, and really just want a decent gun to take deer sized game with, I'd say it will be fine.

Took two deer with my 710 combo, in 270. I saw mine at Walmart and paid $240 out the door. I agree I have some concerns about durability but I didn'thave the funds to get a better one at the time but still drops em like I had upgrade.

i don't like them don't own one put have handled them. i have several 700, 721, 725 all are good rifles. the 710 has a sticky action to me. it is not smooth. the new 770 looks like a better version of the 710. i seen a 770 at Gander Moutain. the action was smother.

RE: Remington Mod 710

The 710 was the first rifle I owned, and I love it! It is dead accurate out of the box, and with an improved scope Leupold VX-III) I've made a 450yard shot on target, and I am NO Marksman.

That being said,I wouldn't buy it again. Unfortunately, there aren't many upgrades for it, the barrel and action are all in one piece, so if one part goes it all goes, and the magazine holder is a plastic piece that may break causing the whole stock assembly to be unusable.

If you can afford it, get any other Remington700 model.

I never shot one but I looked at one beforeI bought my 700 BDL. It just wasn't the gun for me. I didn't like anything about the way it felt in my hands or when I shouldered it and personally I didn't like the over all looks of it. It may be a all around good gun though.

Right now Di cks has an exclusive Remington only made for di cks stores. Its called the Remington 700 SP and it sells for 469. If you can afford it call your local di cks and see if they have it in your caliber of choice. Heres a pic of mine. Just put the scope on it last night.

I don't think the 700 SP was made exclusively for D1cks. You can get them from various online gun stores like ImpactGuns.com, etc.

I have a 710 in 30.06 and I love it. Didn't cost much and shot perfectly out of the box. I have nothing negative to say about the gun whatsoever.
