RE: 30-30
I would just as soon have my .270 in the brush.

RE: 30-30
Yea i think the " Brush gun " thing is just its label i dont think it will do any better in the brush as a 270 or 30/06 or w/e, BUT that being said i love my 30- 30, and its a classic!

RE: 30-30
That is what I use here in Minnesota and I've downed 4 deer with it so far. It is an awesome brush gun that is for sure!

RE: 30-30
30-30 will work great for that!

RE: 30-30
Great gun! There are better "brush guns" but the added yardage you will get out of the 30/30 makes it a better overall choice. My first deer rifle was a 30/30 and I still use it from time to time now. You will be suprised how accurate they are out around 100 yards with open sights!

ORIGINAL: zrexpilot whats a brush gun ?
A gun you can shoot game with or paint a house with..Geez don't you know anything;) |
RE: 30-30
You can shoot brush or trees with any caliber for that matter but it's better to shoot the deer.A brush gun should be defined as a short handy firearm, accurate enough for short to medium range and light in weight for prolonged slithering in the thick stuff.A 30-30 fits the bill as does many others. My personal favorite is a 6.5x55 with handloaded 160gr Hornadys.Penetrates deer completely reguardless of angle and moose broadside.Never have recovered a bullet.Just my take..................Harold

RE: 30-30
Here's the perfect "brush gun".... A "plain jane" open sighted Marlin .30-30 [8D]
![]() For longer distances, when not in the thick woods and heavy brush, I will be using this... A bolt action Savage, chambered in .308 with a 3-9 scope. [8D] ![]() One for one style of hunting, one for another. The best of both worlds! Butch A. |
