ATV Question
Ok I am 5' 8" and about 190lbs. I am looking to get a ATV and have found several models in the 250cc range. I was wondering if this will be to small for me? I don't need it for anything other than to get into my area to hunt and my little truck can't go whereI need this thing to go. I am on a fixed budget and have just under 1000 to spend on it. I really need some advice so please guys/girls help me. thanks

RE: ATV Question
I agree.
If you want to stay in the 250cc range, the Honda Recon is very hard to beat. I have a few friends with them and was amazed when I rode the first one. I am used to the bigbore 4x4's, but those little Recon's are fun.

RE: ATV Question
With $1000 to spend you will be hard pressed to find anything decent. Unless you want to have a breakdown in the woods - stay away from the junk brands out there. You gotta stick with the big 6 (Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Polaris & Arctic Cat)
Strut is right the Reconis very good. But find one for $1000 and you'll be very good also. I'm not sure they've been around long enough for decent used ones to be $1000.
Another model who's reputation is rock solid is the Kawasaki Bayou. Those were made in 220, 250 & 300cc. Very durable machines.
Good luck.

RE: ATV Question
The difference in money you spend between a Recon and a Rancher is well worth it. A Recon, which only come in 250cc, really isn't enough to carry a hunter, equipment and bring a deer out of the woods without struggling. My Rancher is a 350 and I use it to move my 13ft Boston Whaler type boat around. I'd look hard for last years models also, you can find deals if you make the effort. But in the end, you may just have to use the $1000 as a down payment to have something reliable.

RE: ATV Question
I'm 6'2" and 230lbs and I have a 250 Suzuki Ozark and I think it does fine. Of course if you are going to be consistently dealing with snow or mud then the 2wd may not be what you need. For less than the price of a big 650cc 4x4 ATV I got 2 250cc 2wd models and a trailer to haul them with. ($6,250 and they were both barely used)

RE: ATV Question
A 250 is plenty. I and 6'5 220 and used a Recon during gun season in 2000 here. It done everything I asked of it including hauling myself deer and all my equipment with ease. The Bayou's and Ozarks are goodatv's as well. My reg atv is an older Bayou. As uncle matt posted...stick to the name brands and try to avoid the chinese stuff out there. The old Kaws and Hondas are hard to beat....both really good stuff. Id say you can find one for that price if you search well.

RE: ATV Question
I have a Honda Foreman 450S now, but my first ATV was a Honda TRX 250, and my second was a Kawasaki Bayou 220. Those two machines were worked twice as hard as the Foreman, as we have a Mule and a tractor on our hunting area now.Any 250 sized machine will work to get you into the woods and a deer back out. I once brought two other guys and a deer out with the Kawi!
