Hunter's Greatest Advantage

In you opinion what is a hunter's greatest advangtage over deer? Is itcover scent, camo, calls? Just curious what everyone's opinion is and why they feel that way.

i say our greatest advantage used to fool the deer would be scent. I know people who have hunted in jeans and been succesful. Being able to fool the deer by not letting them wind you is a huge advantage.

I agree.

I think the Greatest Advantage for bow hunters is a tree stand.

Proper Treestand Placement

If the treestand is in the best possible position...
I dont need a high powered rifle
I dont need to be fanatical about scent control
I dont need to take long range shots at animals
I'm shooting at animals that dont know I'm there!

Intelligence! An intelligent hunter uses the right tools at the right time to fool his prey. I remember a hunter a few years ago that spotted a monster buck bedded down in an open field that left him no way to approach with the wind direction at the time. He knew if he were to have any chance at all, he would wait until the next day and maybe a more forgiving wind direction. He scored that beautiful buck by waiting. How many people could do that?

I agree with Hunter 59. Its our brain. Without our brain none of the other advantages that have been mentioned wouldexist. The human mind created the tree stand, the high powered rifle etc. Also, our brain allows us to adapt to situations in the field and make decisions that allow us to gain the upper hand on an animal.

1. Weapon sighted-in properly and proper Ammo for game in question

2. Be sure there's Deer in the area (Pre-Scout)

3. Don't smell like Big Foot

4. Be Patient

Our greatest advantage is our brains to outsmart the deer were hunting . High power rifle , mossy oak camo , tinks 69 , ext lol it is made to help us but you can kill deer with a home made bow and arrows .

The brain has to be it. Easy access to information on strategies viamagazines, books, internet, aerial and topo maps.

Tree stands. I can't think of another item that helps turn the table on game like a tree stand set up in the right tree. If I spend the time scouting and taking notes on direction of travel, wind, food source and bedding area I can often intercept the game without being detected. It's almost unfair...:)

The space between your ears. Although most hunters fail to use this tool.

It's the deer rifle, with it you dont need to scout, set up a stand, wear camo, use cents do anything but sit in a spot and wait for one to come within 300 yds, bang flop. Hell you can even walk around and shoot deer with a rifle.

RE: Hunter's Greatest Advantage

I think it is obvious that the superior intellect of man is the greatest advantage that the hunter has over the deer. Of course this is a very large, sweeping statement -- and I mean to include all that sweep in my argument -- but even narrowing down to the area of tactics I think this still applies. Whilea rifle is a technical tool (produced by the intellect of man) provides great advantages, cunning intelligence can put man within 15 yards of his quarry, a distance at which a stone tipped spear could be used to kill a deer. For example, identifying a funnel feature in a hunting area, placing oneself advantageously proximate to this funnel taking advantage of the wind direction, concealing oneself well. I think this intelligence of hunting, which can definitely be developed and honed by hunters, is the key factor.
