Climbing Stick ?'s

Can anyone recommend some climbing sticks? How secure are they? My concern is they will not stick out from the tree far enough to allow me to get my hunting boots safely on them. From the pictures I see, it only looks like you can get the toe of your boots on the steps.

Actually we used some climbing sticks for the first time this year. They were easier to climb than tree steps, as well as much easier to install. I would not hesitate to go this route, the price is comparable to tree steps as well.

I have 3 or 4 different manufacturers models. The steel ones are quieter and to me a lot better... but they're also heavier. The aluminum ones can get noisy in cold weather. I filled all of mine with spray foam. I have 16 and 20 foot models. They all work about the same. Don't worry about your boot not fitting on them. They're very safe. I use a climbing BELT when putting them up. I dislike the metal buckles that some have. In fact, I took most of mine off and replaced the straps with rope. I sometimes use screw in too to get a couple extra feet above them. This time of year you can find some good buys on them.

THis past year was my 1st dealing with sticks. I love them. I want to get another set for next year. They go up nice and easy.

I make my own sticks. if you have a weilder, with about 10 bucks and a couple hrs. time you can have three 6' sticks.a lot cheaper than the factor ones. and no shipping.
I made 3 , 6' sticks and a 10 foot for less than $20.00. they work great.
I make 6' because some trees will work with a big limb and give some more height.

I am not a hunter I am a whitetail population reduction specialest

remember keep your back to the sun, your knife sharp, and your powder dry.

I have a set of Warren and Sweat sticks, up to 16'. I paid $35 on sale, and they are really nice. Much easier to use than screw in steps.

I think Cabela's Magnum Climbing Sticks are a great value. I do like the cambuckle straps, but they also use a double D ring strap that is harder to tighten. I have a 12 footer and a 16 too. I got a 12 for my son for Christmas this year. My feet are BIG and I don't have a bit of trouble climbing. I feel they are much safer than screw in steps and if you tie them together with two straps, one on each end, then tie the straps to each other, you can carry them slung over your shoulder with very little effort.
