Treestand Question

do you think i should take my HANG ON stand openin mornin and hasel with the loud chain, or take it and hang it the night before? with the chance of it gettin stolen.. |

thats the plan

RE: Treestand Question
I would suggest that you hang the stand as soon as you can prior to opening morning. I would suggest at least acouple of weeks before, but understand the risk of it getting stolen. I would hope that if you hung it the evening before with the intention of being in stand prior to sun-up the next day that your stand would not get stolen.

RE: Treestand Question
If they are allowed get a climber stand, pick your tree ahead of time, then that morning just climb up.

RE: Treestand Question
Put a padlock on it...Take excess chain and circle it back behind stand and lock it to the chain thats holding the stand up..As difficult as it is to have to put these stands up..Imagine having to use a a pair of bolt cutters to cut it off..;)

You can reattach them when you come back, and your stand should still be there. Secure the stand with a cable type lock like this one:Cable lock, lock it in place with the lock underneath the seat of the stand and no slack in the cable. Thieves always look for the easiest target, they shun hard work. |
RE: Treestand Question
That's the EXACT cable lock I had on my Lone Wolfclimber when it got stolen.[&o] :D

RE: Treestand Question
ehhh, just get a ground blind. lol, I would put it up around dark the night before maybe. Try not to let anyone see you driving to the hunting area or back and dont let anyone see that you have a tree stand. Once you get it up secure it MULTIPLE ways. If theives have to do more than cut a single chain it will discourage them so put on multiple locks/chains and such. Also like kevin said take your ladder sections down with you.

RE: Treestand Question
Put out before opening morning. Use a thick chain and a large master lock. When the theives look up in the tree and see that, they will move to the next guy's stand.

RE: Treestand Question
I have a few suggestions. Most criminals are lazy therefore they are opportunists. Hence, the more work you make them do to steal your stand the less chance it will occur.
I was reading a study that says most hunters don't hunt more than a 100 yards from a road. Therefore, hunt 200+ yards in if that is a possibility. I also use a cable lock, and a chain (2 locking devices). Take down any screw in steps/ladders as well. Lastly, place the stand in good cover, so it won't be easily noticed. Even doing all this I can't guarantee your stand won't get stolen, but these are good preventitive measures to take. |
RE: Treestand Question
If there's that much of a threat for theft just a week before the season I would suggest finding another spot. Chances are there's too much pressure in that area.
Moving in 200 yardsor even more sounds advantageous. |
RE: Treestand Question
sorry I did'nt get back right away to ya,mystands are out now except for one I'm hanging it sat.get that thing out there as early as you can I got mine in pine trees in the oaks, I think I got the two biggest pines around the pine trees give you a good scent cover also the better your stand is concealed the better chance you have of being undetected by any deer or thieve, just make you a couple of windows to shoot out of,I like mine between 20 an 22FT. and I like to try to get of the runway or travel route 20 to 25 YDS. that way you can get a double lung shot,If your not comfortable being that high go a little lowerthey have black cable locks at dick's for $10.00 don't go by your self when you hang your standMAKE SURE TO WEAR A SAFETY HARNESS WHILE HUNTING
