RE: Finally called gamewarden.
Johnny,
We've been battling the same problem where I hunt. Three weeks ago I watched 2 different trucks ride down the road. Each one had 3 guys in the back of it with guns. They hunt from the road all the time and kill deer on other peoples land. We have been in arguments more times than I care to remember, two of which almost ended up in a fight. We've talked to the game warden several times. Even invited them to park on our land far enough back so the doggers can't see their vehicle. They've never showed up. I'm sure there are some guys out there that hunt with dogs legally but the ones around us sure don't. I would say you did the right thing. Like you said, you're doing things the legal way so you have nothing to worry about. Hopefully your game warden will take care of the problem for you.

Both of you made erroneous descriptions of your perpetrators. In neither of your incidents were these people even close to being hunters. The correct term you should be using when describing these people is, poachers.
You did the right thing.

In NY, they have mechanical deer (and bears) that DEC uses to catch road hunters. Too bad that AL doesn't have the same thing.
Yes, you did the right thing. Soonershooter also has a point.

In ny you can't hunt with dogs You can shot deer from the road as long as your not in your vehicle, and there are no houses around. I'm not sure what your laws are. I personally have never shot from the road and doubt I ever will. I think the the bigger problem is having that many people in the same area with loaded weapons. Even though this is not there land they may have permission to be there. I think that you did the right thing by calling the warden, but he might not give a crap, or they're doing nothing wrong. Find out what your laws are and let us know what happened???

First you did the right thing by calling the warden. My hat is off to you. If there were enough wardens to stake out every call they got, we all would feel great because the second someone is out of line they would get nailed. The reality is there aren't enough wardens to cover as much ground as we would like during our time afield. Persistance will be rewarded though if you keep at them hopefully they will show up and catch the poachers. The skeaky wheel gets the grease so keep calling and don't let a few bad apples ruin your time.

You did right. Keep calling the GW. Cableguy is right, squeaky wheel gets the grease. If you get no response, go up to his captain. If that doesn't work call the head of the department. Be very cordial and describe that you understand that the GW's have a lot of calls and area to cover but you have not had a response at all. If you still get nothing check back with the department head. If still nothing you may call him and explain the bad press wouldn't help either of you but you are trying to get something done. My bet is the last step will be the first contact with the Head of the Department.
