Typical or Non-typical?

Two years ago I had a shot at a small non-typical buck. It had two small drops coming off of one antler and a single drop coming off of the other. These drops probably measured 2-3 inches apiece. With out these it would have been a small 6 with G2s about 5 inches long. I think it was an older deer too. Real gray in the face and muzzle area. I passed on it because a larger buck stepped out in the field. I chose the bigger buck, a 138 Pope and Young. I want to know what deer would you have taken. I am proud of the deer I took, but I have always wanted to take a non-typical. I wander if maybe I lost my chance.

138 P&Y is a terrific trophy. No question i would have done as you did.

I would further guess that the NT buck you saw was probably a young buck. I know you said that his muzzle was gray but the tine size screams youngster to me. Maybe, you'll see him again only this time he will be so much larger that it will be a no brainer.

I'd take the non-typical. Sounds like an interesting buck!

Ain't nothing wrong with a 138 P&Y trophy. Just think that non-typical will be bigger this year for you to take.;)

I'm not letting a 17pt walk over a 10pt!:)

I favour the typical racks. A big typical is an outstanding example of the animal as it has evolved to be. Non-typicals are freaks - though interesting freaks. If the Jordan buck and the Hole-in-the-Horn buck walked into the same clearing at the same time, the Jordan buck bites the dust.
