RE: Convicted Felon
ORIGINAL: txjourneyman I just found this on the ATF website. Statute 555.106. Makes it illegal for me to possess blackpowder. I now have to decide if I'm willing to risk it. Despite Tx law which says its OK. The feds clearly say its not OK. Dang! Its been over 20 years since my conviction, itmay be time to try for a pardon. I wonder how often it is enforced. Expunging your record is available in some states; I live in Texas too, and I'm pretty sure it is available for felonies committed where you were convicted in state courts. That's the good news. The bad news is if you were convicted in Federal court, there is no expungement....the only out is a Presidential pardon. I believe that if your sentence is less than a year, you aren't precluded from possessing a firearm, but it has been several years since I researched this, and I'm going off of memory. You might want to talk to a good criminal attorney to find out your options. |

RE: Convicted Fellon
ORIGINAL: IL_ray_phillips Laws vary from state to state on the definition of a firearm. In IL a felon cannot have a muzzleloader. For the most part, however, felons can hunt with muzzleloaders (as long as its not an Encore or a CVA Pro Elite). I've heard stories from cop friends of mine about cab drivers with felony records carrying black poweder revolvers as a form of protection, since they are not considered firearms or even weapons. Totally legal in our state apparently! Imagine some thug knocking over a liquor store with a flintlock..... |
