Question on taste

I know that the flavor of whitetails can be changed by what they eat (same as to beef), (also difference between elk, deer, moose, tried them all) but is there a noticeable flavor difference between mule deer and whitetail deer. I have never tried mule deer and I was just wondering.

Yes there is, and mule deer aren't nearly as good.:D

Mulies are a little bit tougher and a little more gamier, but it depends if the animal was calm, or running. Big difference.

I agree, mulys definatly don't taste as good as whitetail. I think that gamier taste has somthing to with all of that sage brush they eat.

What's really bad is an antelope that's all fired up with adrenaline......[:'(]

It's really the only meat I don't really care for.

RE: Question on taste

An old guy at my church who is a retired butcher told me to bleed the meat out in a cooler for at least a week before eating it. I tried it on my deer last year and sure enough, the meat was fantastic.

RE: Question on taste

I would have to say from what I've ate, elk taste better than whitetail. It could have been the way it was cooked, I've only had elk a couple times.

I agree 100 percent. Just keep putting ice on it and drain out the old bloody water.
