You're doing just fine. Most often the best places to hunt are off the beaten trail. I think you may have found a good spot and from the sounds of it you're nort afraid to get out there and do some ground work. Keep it up. I've no doubt you will get one eventually through persistance and good planning.

White-Raven, I would like to say I wasn't afraid but I was a little, well it was more like kind of freaked out. I had a flash light but it was still creepy. I was thinking about being as quite but every now and again I would get worried about stepping on a chupacabra and losing a leg. I was quite relived once I was up in the tree.

A chupacabra, you step on one of these and you might not manke it home.

I have a similar situation, but the land is owned by my father (which makes hunting it a little easier cuase i can go there anytime)
I did alot of reading on swamps and deer and also studied the area very intensly for about 3 years. what I've noticed and is backed up by several articles in hunting mag's most swamp areas aren't hunted heavily thus providing a safe haven for deer. as we all know big bucks not only desire safety but rely on it. If you get a topo map I'm certain that you'll see that the swamp has a bottle-neck apperiance to it. meaning that one end is more narrow than the other. usually the thiner end being bustled with heavy brush. deer will make their way through a area like that in mid afternoons or when pressure is on. if you can put your climber on the wider end
( providing you'll have shot) you more than likely will see the deer making his way to a afternoon nap or a excellent escape route.

i know you said you just started hunting and welcome aboard man, but don't forget to give archary a try, your area may be just what the deer doctor ordered. if there is anything I've learned in my hunting years it's expect the unexpected and don't be affraid to blaze your own trail. good luck in the future and GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!!

I did use http://terraserver.homeadvisor.msn.com to get a good map and my tree stand was right in the funnel. I ended up seeing two deer but never had a shot because both times i could not see there head. last night hunting season ended in central florida and it was a cold end. I froze all weekend up in the tree stand. Only thing I saw the whole weekend was a pack of yealping begals that ran past my tree stand yesterday about 4:30 pm. I was so mad I got out of the tree stand and gave chase but nerver cought one. I ended up just packing up and going home early. it kinda left a bad impression one me. I can't belive someone ran there dogs accross private proptery. My friend told me he has caugh dogs out there before and calls the game warden and the game warden picks them up and confronts the owner but I don't think anything ever come from it because it's happend a few times now.
