last bow season i seen 23 deer one day an 0 the next. 2 the day after an 11 the next. challenge? for one with a bow, everyhunt is a challenge. gettin them close enough is a challenge. the reawrd is havin 5 does right under your treestand not havin a clue your 15-20 ft above them. an if that buck comes in the challenge is controlling buck fever an being able to hit him in the vitals. Thats challenging BUT ALSO FUN!

Not to confuse you with all these numbers, but if you can shoot a deer in NH, you can shoot a deer anywhere. The same can't be said for ND.
....I find it funny that you think ND hunters are stupid. Maybe I am the one who should move...yeah, I'll move to NH... become a real hunter, than move back to dumb ol' ND, where I will be known as the states greatest and only good deer hunter. haha...lol.

....So, Next timeyourthinking about, what you believe is,a typical ND hunters' lack of ability andknowledge, think about why NHdoesnt shoot many deer, maybe its not the lack of deer, maybe its the hunters or the lack of hunters. lol;).

I apologize...aparantly, from your comment obove, you thoughtI was trying to degrade you with my original post. That was not my intent.
gb.....I never said or ever thought ND hunters are stupid. Nor do I believe ND hunters lack ability and knowledge. I was replying toyour comment:
"Maybe you should move if you can't get a deer."

I was trying to show that not everyone (self included) shoots a deer every year here in NH.Any yes, it is easier to tag a deer when there are more running the woods. Inever put anyone down for being successful when they hunt places with lots of deer. We are all in this together, we are all hunters.

I have a close friend that lives/hunts Wisc. He is truly a good hunter that never has a problem filling his tags and he sees deer every time in the woods near his home. He hunted with us in NH for opening week for two years. He only saw 5 deer and shot none.Of theother 5 of us, weonly dragged 3deereachin thosefirst two week. Not a great record but pretty good for the woods we hunted. Any yes, there were a couple big old New England bucks.

Just please don't think that because someone fails to punch their tag when hunting up here in New England, it's because they are a poor hunter. That was the impression that I got.

Good luck hunting and I hope you have a very successful 2007 season.

RE: Where's the challenge when you see deer EVERY DAY?

I too have asked the same questions of my friends in KS and IL. They see probably 30-40 deer a day. W/probably a 1/4 of those being bucks. I on the other hand hunt in VA and TN where I go many days and never see a single deer. One year during rifle season I hunted 8 straight days w/out seeing a single deer.-And I know it was mentioned that perhaps people like me that don't see deer don't know what we're doing. That's not at all the case. I've been in my friends scenarios and seen just as many as they have. It has to do w/deer density.

That being said, I think it varies for everyone. Some just like being out in the woods. Other's have the drive for a record breaker buck. Me, I just want to fill my freezer for another year and enjoy being in the woods. I will say that, it was a neat experience to go out and see a plethra of deer that they were seeing, however it would get REAL old to me real quick. To eachhis own I guess...

The Challenge is to see if Sears, Penny's or Sam's has the bigger freezer!:)

SOME PEOPLE DONT CARE ABOUT THE CHALLENGE AND WOULD RATHER SHOOT FENCED IN DEER THAN HAVE TO SIT OUT THERE FOR DAYS WAITING. IM NOT SAYING THEY SHOOT FENCED DEER THOUGH. THATS JUST AN EXAMPLE. AROUND HERE THERE ARE SO MANY DEER THAT I COULD SHOOT ONE OR 3 ALMOST EVERY DAY, BUT IM JUST WAITING FOR SOMETHING BIG TO SHOW UP. I CAN SHOOT ALMOST AS MANY DOE'S AS I WANT AS LONG AS I KEEP MOVING TO DIFFERENT COUNTIES. BUT THATS TOO MUCH WORK FOR ME HAHA.

IMHO........... there is not much challenge in killing a deer. In fact it's relatively easy. If a challenge is what someone is looking for, then I would recommend hunting mature bucks................. different ballgame.

Personally I could care less about "seeing deer" in mass numbers. I'm more concerned about seeing THE deer.

Bingo. What NYB said and where Dan has agreed is where the challenge lies. Killing any deer is not particularly challenging to an experienced hunter.

I hunt in an area where the last deer survey showed 44.5 deer per sq. mile in my 90,000 acre hunting club. Believe me, just because you see alot of deer doesn't mean it is easy to kill good bucks!
