Default question about shotgun only states...

I live in NY and am curious......which states is it mandatory that shotguns be used besides NY. Most of NY is allowing the hunting of big game with rifles except the county I live in....Chautauqua. Am looking to get that changed and was just wondering. The excuses they give for not passing the rifle bill are a joke.

Illinois used to be shotgun/muzzleloader only but have added handguns to all deer seasons except the muzzleloader only season. No center fire rifles allowed.

RI is shotgun only. I remember years ago my friend in NY had property in Schoharie county NY, that was shotgun only too. I lived in Onondaga county for a few years, also shotgun only. Did these regs change?

There is a muzzleloader season in RI too, dont know about those 2 counties in NY I mentioned, I wasn't into shootingMLs back then.

yep, both of those counties allow rifles now. I believe Chautauqua is the only one that doesn't.

With modern in-line muzzleloaders capable of shooting consistently at 200 to 250 yards,.... do we really need the option of centerfire riflesin many of out popualted states ??? [&:]

We certainly NEVER need a rifle season here in IL.

Indiana too. Funny thing, I now live in NC which is a Rifle State, but I still use my shotgun in the treestand. Not too many shot over 100 yards where I am hunting right now. It's my "Brush Gun".
