What do you think this buck would score?

I really have no clue on how to score a deer. A friend of mine killed this buck a few years back. Can anybody estimate a score? This deer is a pretty big deer for this part of VA.

Gross: 153
Net: 145-148

Just a wild guess, it's hard to see the kickers without more pics.

The picture is not great but I would guess around 140 net at best.It has good mass but is lacking in tine length and has deductions.

I'd be shocked if he didn't gross in the 160's! He's got excellent mass and alot of width and decent tine length.

Great buck. I am no expert either, but I would say he would gross in the 170s.

a good 155 t0 160 inches. real good thick beams and tines. that is an excellent deer for VA.

Because it's an 8 point main frame, it's missing the important G4's and the 3rd circ measurement which really adds up when scoring, I'd bet scoring 160 would be too high. The thing that helps this to score higher as an 8 point is it's mass. I'd put it in the 145 class.

A beautiful buck! I would say he will gross right at 145" typical.

the mass will make the tine length decieving....I bet those tines are not as short as they seem. They appear to be almost as long as that guys upper arm. What hurts it the most is that its only an 8 point as Rob said. Also it appears to have several inches of deductions.

I'll guess he grosses in the 150's and nets the low to mid 140's

** I almost got him but I refuse to take a marginal shot **

Do you have any measurements such as main beam length, bases, tine length?

I would guess 155 to 160.

I would say gross in the 150's and net in the low to mid 140's. A very good buck not only in VA but in most states.

RE: What do you think this buck would score?

I say he'll gross 150-160, at beautiful buck and the heavy tines makes you think it will be more but only length goes into account when scoring tines, so i say he'll net around 145, but man that sure is a nice buck, i think someone would have to be crazy to let it walk.

RE: What do you think this buck would score?

In many locations he would be a big buck but I do know several hunters in my area(myself included)that would let this deer walk.He would be a decent deer in alberta or saskatchewan but certainly not a really big buck.A deer has to net well in excess of 150 or so to be considered really big in our area.

beagleman28-Is there any way that your friend could get this buck scored? With such a wide range of estimates(140 to 170)it would be interesting to see the actual net score.Taxidermists or hunting clubs can usually refer you to a qualified scorer in the local area.

RE: What do you think this buck would score?

Stubble,
I tried to talk him into getting it scored at the annual hunting show. He didn't want to go through the hassle of it. Anyway, in VA a differnt measuring system is used(Va scoring system?). I don't know anyone in the area who is a B/C or P/Y scorer.

RE: What do you think this buck would score?

I would score him against the grain, Season with salt, pepper and a little flour and saute in butter with mushrooms, shallots and brandy...but I'm no expert!

Very nice buck though!
