Deer Rifles!

Okay guys now that its going into bow season i wanted to make a deer rifle poll! Ok what One would you pick if some one said pick one to hunt with and keep? these are just calibers also!

A shot gun is not a rifle.

If I had to pick any of those JUST for deer hunting and one only. The 06' probably.

RE: Deer Rifles!

I chose the .30-06 cuz my popz got one and it is one sweet shooter. Haven't shot any of the other calibers not Gauges to compare.

RE: Deer Rifles!

not much of a choice there chief, but if i had to pick one of those itd be the 30 06.

RE: Deer Rifles!

I got to agree with everyone else.

I own all the big magnums, but when it comes down to the wire, I reach for my
Remington 760 Gamemaster 30 - 06 witha 10 shot clip.

My only other response is that there are no bad centerfire rifles out there for hunting deer. As long as it is a 25 / 06 or bigger, it will work anywhere I hunt.

My only other belief is that a .243 should be used for groundhogs only!

.270

There's no option for my Encore 209x50 muzzleloader? :(

.308 the only way to go but the ones you got up there I would choose the.243 my daughter shoots one. And I take it some drops em like a box of rocks. Its not the size of gun you shoot its shot placement that counts.

I know...my go-to deer gun is my CVA Optima muzzleloader. Even though i voted for the 30-30, i love my black powder.

My .243 works just fine, thank you very much. I've shot as many deer with my .243 as I have with my .30-06, and there has been NO discernible difference in their performance. I've had just as many drop in their tracks with the .243 as I have withthe '06. I've had just as many run 30 yards after being shot with the '06 as I have with the .243. Every deer I've shot with the '06 required one shot. Every deer I've shot with the .243 required one shot. Anyone who thinks the .243 is not a competent deer cartridge is either a poor marksman, or has no experience using one.

Crap, the darn 30-06, I can't vote for my favorite cartridge (.308)because of the 30-06! It truly is Just 2 Good, if anything is.
Anyone who says that the 30-06 is the best deer cartridge if shot well is unlike those who don't, those who don't are smokin' somthin', lol.;)

Since no one has voted on a shotgun, you can still go back and take off those options. You don't need to get angry, there's always the crowd that if you have a poll like this and say, "what's you favorite caliber?" they'll say, "A caliber is the diameter of the bullet, you're referring to a cartridge."
They're not wrong, but anyone who's been on this site long enough or gone through Hunter's Safety knows that already, so after awhile, it can get annoying.
Just learn to get used to it, it won't pay to keep getting frustrated, humility can really pay off here, even if it's hard, and I've failed sometime at that.

You might want to put the 7mm-08 up there, and the 7mm Rem Mag, which, actually, I think is better than the '06 for performance, the 7mm Rem Mag has higher velocity, and can shoot longer range than a 30-06, yet it has about the same power at 100 yards, 7mm Rem Mag is just more versatile for long-range shooting, I would much rather have a 7mm Rem Mag with a 4-12x40 scope on it than a 30-06 with a 4x12x40 for hunting Mule Deer in the West.

I would choose the 270 it is a accurate gun I have had a 243 and they are a good gun but I like the extra punch that the 270 has.
