How do you tell the difference with a Whitetail and Mule
My permit this year is for a Whitetail Only. The area that I hunt has both. Does anybody know of a good website or resource to quickly identify the deer?
I kinda know the basics,... with the rack and main beams, muley has bigger ears, and the tail.I doubt myself quite a bit when I see one or the other, and I'd like to be able to ID quicker.

A mule deer "poggos" when it runs although they also trot too. A mule deer’s under belly, especially near the chest is black and with whitetails with me anyways, the first thing I see is bits of white from their lower stomach and their tail (which they often flick and wag when they're walking like a dog) moving.A mulies tail is narrow with a black tip and the top of a whites tail is brown and bushy.

I find the easiest way is mule deer have that black tip on the end of their tail. Also, whitetailseem skittish to me and flee for almost nothing. MV out!

Well it should be pretty easy. Whitetails have a white tail and they usually run like a normal four legged animals while muleys hop or trot and they have a shorter tail and are usually darker in color, more grayish while whitetails are more bown to reddish brown.
